Advice from Authentic Learning and PBL Experts

Recently I had the opportunity to record a Google Hangout with Jill Ackers, Primary School Director at the Spanish House in Dallas, TX, about the startup of her PBL Spanish immersion elementary and preschool. I'm excited to add this conversation to our Project Based Learning playlist.

As Google Hangouts on Air has evolved it’s become a great tool to curate and share learning. I’ve certainly enjoyed the live panel discussions I’ve done around the Next Generation Science Standards and Literacy for 21st Century Learners pulling experts from around the country to explore these topics with live comments and feedback from viewers on our YouTube channel.

Recently I had the opportunity to talk with Jill Ackers, Primary School Director at the Spanish House in Dallas, TX, about the startup of this PBL Spanish immersion elementary and preschool. As our discussion ranged from standards based grading to management to the importance of purpose and intentional planning for inclusion of art and play in the learning process I was so impressed with her articulation of the thinking behind the process and I’m excited to share this as part of our Project Based Learning playlist below. In this playlist you’ll find the full archived conversation as well as short excerpts targeted to specific topics along with other Hangout conversations and videos around Authentic and Project Based Learning.

I’m looking forward to future Hangouts around a number of topics as well as a follow up with Jill to dive a bit deeper into a few topics. If you have specific questions or topics you’d like me to explore please do let me know and if you know of an educator doing great work we’d love to showcase their work too!
