Roland has experience as a math and science teacher at Louisville’s Saint Xavier High School, where he partnered with University of Louisville professors to pilot student-centered investigative learning and wrote multiple grants to embed authentic learning opportunities into his classroom. In his years at CTL, he has served as an Instructional Technology Coordinator and Director of Programs. In these roles, he has led project implementation efforts, coordinated the work of project managers, as well as provide professional learning and technical assistance support to clients.

Angela Peters

As a member of CTL’s executive team, Angela is involved in the development of general office policies and procedures, and participates in the development and supervision of budgets for all CTL projects. Before coming to CTL, Angela worked as office manager for the Kentucky regional office of Advanced Systems in Measurement and Evaluation, and in several departments at the University of Louisville, including the Family Therapy Program and the Office of News and Public Information.

Ashley is a professional learning facilitator, program designer, blogger and literacy coach. She uses her experience as an English Language Arts classroom teacher, writing cluster leader and literacy coach to work on various projects, including co-writing Artful Reading modules and supporting the Adolescent Literacy Model.

Emily Wilson

Emily comes to CTL with a varied background in education and education leadership including  experience in private, traditional, and “turn-around” public schools, as well as public charter schools. Her expertise lies in language learning and second language acquisition, literacy based instructional design across all disciplines, developing professional development for forward thinking educators, and leading schools through systems change. As a founding administrator of Esmeralda Santiago Charter School, one of Chicago’s highest performing K-8 schools, Emily understands the complexities of managing, supporting, and elevating a school’s community, student, and professional culture.

Jennifer Wright

Jennifer supports teachers during their Artful Reading implementation by  facilitating professional learning and providing job-embedded coaching. Prior to joining CTL, Jennifer was first grade teacher and has a skillful approach to elementary literacy instruction. She works alongside teachers as they discover the power arts integration has on student learning and helps them look for opportunities to infuse arts into their daily instruction.  

Jennifer also serves as the Marketing Coordinator, bringing our various instructional programs to educators across the country.

Melody Raymond

Educational Programs Specialist Consultant

Melody is a professional learning facilitator and a literacy coach for CTL’s Artful Reading and Adolescent Literacy Model.  She works with school administrators, leadership teams, and instructional coaches to support teachers in these programs as they intentionally integrate these strategies. In her 32 years at Jefferson County Public Schools, she served as a middle school classroom teacher, a Language Arts district-wide resource teacher, a middle school counselor, an assistant principal, and eventually an elementary school principal for ten years. She has also worked with the University of Louisville through the Kentucky Teacher Internship Program (KTIP), the Alternative Certification program, and was a university supervisor for student teachers and Language Arts methods students.

Mindy Curless

Educational Programs Specialist – Science Focus

Mindy is a professional learning facilitator for CTL’s Adolescent Literacy Model, as well as a specialist in science education, having contributed to the development, implementation and assessment of the KY Academic Standards for Science. Mindy has over two decades of experience as an engineer, working for NASA-JSC, GE Aircraft Engines, Horizon Environmental Group, and Argus Engineering. In her second career, she taught middle school science and math in Fayette County for four years where she served as Team Leader, Science Department Chair, and Curriculum Assessment Coordinator. She also worked at the Kentucky Department of Education as the STEM Consultant for seven years.

Rita Messer

Educational Programs Specialist – Mathematics Focus

“I love supporting teachers, both inside and outside the classroom, to impact students’ experiences.”

Since the fall of 2014, Rita has shaped and guided the math work at CTL highlighted by the Math Science Partnership grant Modeling to Make Sense (2016-2018) in partnership with KDE, Campbellsville University, and four central Kentucky districts.   She also supports district training and implementation of CTL’s Adolescent Literacy Model. Rita has 24 years of experience teaching mathematics in grades seven through college. She has taught in both Tennessee and Kentucky. She has experience as an Appalachian Teacher Partner through the National Science Foundation-funded Master Teacher Project.

Dr. Sherri Beshears-McNeely

Sherri has worked in various capacities at CTL, including Innovation and Design Coordinator, Literacy Project Manager, and Arts Specialist for CTL. Most recently, she served as Director of Student Development and Engagement for a nation-wide network of charter schools. She is now a consultant and writer for Artful Reading, Adolescent Literacy, and Postsecondary Success Skills work. She has over two decades of diverse educational experience including classroom instruction, curriculum planning, professional development design and delivery, and teacher/administrative coaching.
