ALM Protocols

A protocol consists of agreed-upon guidelines that ensure equal participation, expectations, and accountability and can facilitate dialogue and reflection. When everyone understands and uses the procedures of a protocol, the collaborative work is more focused, productive, and effective. We provide two protocols specific for teacher use around refining lessons and looking at student work.

The Lesson Refining Protocol looks at tightening a plan prior to delivery, while the Student Work Analysis Protocol allows for reflection and revision after delivery, based on evidence of learning in actual student work. Both yield high results in strengthening implementation and are essential for helping teachers engage in feedback that is specific to lesson planning and evidence of student learning.
