“Over the years, I have been very fortunate to have acquired some high-quality professional learning and made that learning an integral part of classroom instruction.  Working at CTL provides me the opportunity to share my knowledge and experiences with others to improve mathematics education.”

Rita believes that all students should aim high—and she wants to make sure that math never prevents any student from achieving his or her goals.

At CTL, Rita works with with the Teacher Leadership Cohort in the Instructional Transformation Grant, and with mathematics teachers in the Berea College Promise Neighborhood and GEAR UP Kentucky projects. She is excited about contributing to the ongoing professional growth of all teachers, and says it’s particularly gratifying to help teachers develop new thinking and strategies tailored to their specific content.

Rita brings to her work at CTL 24 years of experience teaching mathematics in grades seven through college. A native of McCreary County, Kentucky, and a graduate of Berea College, she began her teaching career in Oneida, Tennessee. Most recently, Rita taught pre-calculus, trigonometry, pre-AP geometry, dual credit college algebra and dual credit/AP calculus at Washington County (Kentucky) High School. She also served as Washington County Mathematics Department Chair, and worked with teachers as an Appalachian Teacher Partner through the National Science Foundation-funded Master Teacher Project.
