“One thing that I like about working at CTL is that we don’t do one-shot workshops. We establish ongoing relationships with people working in schools and walk with them through their growth.”
Mary comes to CTL with long experience as an educator serving students and schools in many roles. After 13 years as a high school English teacher and motivated to give teachers a greater voice in decision making and planning for improvement, she became an assistant middle and high school principal at Eminence (Kentucky) Independent. Mary went on to positions as middle and high school curriculum director in the Boyle County (Kentucky) Schools, as a Kentucky Department of Education Highly Skilled Educator supporting schools in Jefferson and LaRue Counties, and later, implementing KDE’s professional development on the Striving Readers 2 adolescent literacy federal grant. She also provided technical assistance for state leaders and teachers as an independent consultant to the Literacy Design Collaborative, and initiative of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation aimed at improving college and career readiness for all students.
At Centre College in Danville, Kentucky, Mary served as Visiting Instructor of Education, working with pre-service teachers in language arts, leading a research practicum, and helping to broaden the teacher preparation program through an original course in education advocacy through non-profit organizations. Mary has also led numerous statewide workshops on school culture, professional learning, content literacy, standards and assessment.
At CTL Mary is helping to deliver CTL’s Adolescent Literacy Model as part of CTL’s GEAR UP college readiness partnerships statewide, and assisting the GEAR UP Kentucky and Berea College GEAR UP partnerships with data analysis to identify needs and inform strategies for college readiness planning.
Mary is married with two children in college.
