Amy brings experience and passion to her work designing and supervising the delivery of professional development that has a direct impact on educators and their students. She is committed to providing support to teachers and administrators, while challenging them to broaden both their thinking and their practice.
Formerly CTL's Vice President for Program Design and Implementation, Amy currently works as an independent educational programs consultant with CTL, focused on special projects and supporting the overall work of CTL. Her current projects include professional development program management for CTL in its partnership with the International Reading Association's Global Literacy Professional Development Network, managing country project for CTL and IRA in Indonesia and Bangladesh, and coaching and mentoring of this global elementary literacy professional development model.
Amy is an experienced K-12 clinical reading specialist and teacher who designed and supervised various CTL literacy projects over her 12 years on staff. Her work included developing and managing CTL's federally funded Striving Readers Adolescent Literacy Project, overseeing community college professional development programs, and leading a professional development project for East African teachers at a school for impoverished children in Tanzania, East Africa.
Her prior experience also includes designing and implementing Kentucky's Writing Portfolio assessment and professional development program, designing Kentucky's statewide reading assessment, and working with other statewide assessment and professional development programs for Advanced Systems in Measurement and Evaluation in the 1990's. In addition, she spent seven years as a primary and intermediate teacher in the Jefferson County Public Schools, with a focus on writing instruction, specialized reading programs, and visual arts for at-risk learners.
Amy has served as a presenter for a host of educational organizations nationally and internationally, including the International Reading Association (IRA), the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), the National Staff Development Council (NSDC), and the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).
She currently splits her time between the United States and Tanzania, where she lives with her husband and family.
