Appalachian Education Initiative
"Working with CTL is a great experience for a small nonprofit organization. The staff at CTL really joined in our research project, listening to our ideas, learning about our state's arts education community and sharing insights that helped us build a research process that will enable us to gather relevant data to plan for the future."
-Lourdes Karas, Executive Director
Appalachian Education Initiative
Status of Arts Education in West Virginia Public Schools
CTL is conducting a comprehensive survey on the status of arts education in West Virginia public schools, a project funded by the Appalachian Education Initiative (AEI), Morgantown West Virginia. To learn more about this project, visit the News & Events section of AEI's website. Also see Current Work more more information.
General Consultation
Since 2007 CTL has consulted with AEI on the design and development of its arts education outreach programs and services. CTL anticipates working with AEI on the following additional projects:
- The development of a parent advocacy toolkit to provide parents an understanding of the value of arts in education and practical tools to approach building leaders and teachers about including the arts in the daily curriculum
- Training for teaching artists to support their work in school settings
- The design of a new arts education “framework” for school self-assessment of their current arts education programs, enabling them to better target professional development and the use of external arts resources to boost program effectiveness
